Len Howard Conservation Park Nature Trail

The nature trail in Len Howard Conservation Park follows the edge of the Peel-Harvey Estuary in Erskine, Mandurah, with calm water views much of the way. Dogs are allowed on the trail on lead.

Lead rules

Keep dogs leashed throughout. The park protects Ramsar-listed wetland, and the lead keeps dogs out of fragile estuary habitat. It is managed by the state conservation department, DBCA, with the City of Mandurah.

The walk

The track is flat and graded easy, a hardened dirt path with short boardwalk sections through paperbarks and remnant bush. Expect egrets and pelicans on the water and sometimes kangaroos resting near the path.

Some shade comes from the bush and the Nature's Eye Shelter, but the estuary edge is open to the sun.

Before you go

Free parking, toilets and bins are at the main car park, with few bins further along. There is no water on the trail, so bring some and a bowl for the dog.

Max: Mosquitoes can be bad near the wetlands in season. Pack repellent for yourself.

Make a day of it

For coffee afterwards, try Tods Cafe or D'lights Cafe.

The gentle, level track is easy on older dogs and best walked early, before the sun reaches the open shoreline.
