Mowbray Park

Huge old Moreton Bay figs frame the Brisbane River at Mowbray Park, on Lytton Road in East Brisbane, just over the line from Woolloongabba. Dogs are welcome on lead, and the shade here is some of the best along the river.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council requires dogs to be on lead and under effective control. There is no off-lead area inside the park.

The walk

Paved paths and a shared bikeway wind under figs, eucalypts and kauri pines, with open views of the river, the Story Bridge and the city skyline. The paths join the wider riverwalk if you want to keep going.

Bubblers are scattered around, bins are easy to find, and toilets, barbecues, picnic tables and a playground are on site. Parking is on site and in the streets off Lytton Road, and the Mowbray Park ferry terminal is right there.

Pepsi: The bubblers are not built at dog height, so bring a bowl and fill it up.

Make a day of it

Carry on around to the Kangaroo Point and Story Bridge Loop, or finish with a drink at the Shafston Hotel.

The heavy canopy makes this a good pick for warm days. It suits dogs that stay relaxed on lead around bikes on a shared path.
