Dunwich Foreshore Walk

The foreshore at Dunwich, also called Goompi, is the first stretch of Minjerribah most people see off the ferry. Sometimes listed as the Dunwich Foreshore Promenade, it is a relaxed on-lead walk looking over Moreton Bay.

Lead rules

Redland City Council allows dogs on lead in the foreshore parks. Dogs are banned at all times from the foreshore and seashore in front of the swimming enclosures, so detour around them.

For off-lead time, use the signed area at Skatebowl Park on Barton Street, between the skate bowl and the fenced section.

The walk

Mown grass, sandy tracks and concrete near the ferry terminal make up the route. Old fig trees, mudflats and small green islands frame the calm water.

Bring water and a bowl for your dog. Parking is easy in town near the ferry.

Max: Know where the swimming enclosures are before you set off. That stretch is closed to dogs.

When to go

Walk it straight off the ferry to stretch legs after the crossing. It suits dogs happy with people around, and the council also bans dogs from Cylinder Beach, Brown Lake and Myora Springs, so plan the rest of the island with that in mind.
