Diamond Creek Trail

The Diamond Creek Trail follows the creek through Eltham North on a sealed off-road path. For dog owners its best feature is a direct link to a fully fenced dog park, so a leashed walk can end with a run.

Lead rules

Nillumbik Shire Council requires dogs to be on a lead along the shared path. Dogs must also stay leashed within 5 metres of any shared path, even where the trail passes through a reserve with off-leash areas.

The walk

The surface is asphalt or concrete, running past creek corridors, wetlands and grassy parkland. Kangaroos and waterbirds are regulars.

Walkers, runners and cyclists all use it, so keep left and bring your dog in close when bikes pass.

Water and shade

Drinking fountains are spread along the trail network and the adjoining reserves, and bins sit at the entries and rest spots. Native canopy shades much of the creek.

Parking is near Eltham North Reserve and the adventure playground.

Max: Kangaroos graze along this creek. Keep the lead short and your dog's attention on you the moment you spot one.

Make a day of it

Finish at Eltham North Dog Park, which has a big main area and a separate space for small or quiet dogs. Then head into Eltham for coffee at Third Chapter.

When to go

The shade and sealed surface make it a comfortable summer walk for most dogs. Weekday mornings are quieter than weekends.
