Darling Harbour Foreshore Walk

The Darling Harbour foreshore gives city dogs a long, flat waterfront stroll from Pyrmont past the Star and down to Haymarket. Dogs are welcome, but these are busy shared paths and the lead stays on the whole way.

Lead rules

Placemaking NSW runs the Darling Harbour precinct and asks for dogs on lead at all times along the promenades and in open areas like Tumbalong Park. Keep dogs out of the children's playgrounds.

The walk

The surface is hard all the way, from concrete promenade to paved walkways and stretches of timber boardwalk. You pass modern waterfront buildings, the historic vessels at the Australian National Maritime Museum and the lawns of Tumbalong Park.

Bubblers with low bowls or taps are dotted around Tumbalong Park and Darling Quarter. Bins are frequent but bag dispensers are not, so carry your own.

Max: Long open stretches of concrete soak up the sun. On a hot day, test the ground with your hand and walk early or late.

Getting there

Street parking is scarce and tightly restricted. The paid car park at Darling Quarter is the practical choice if you have to drive.

Make a day of it

Keep walking with the Central Station to Circular Quay route, or head to Mona off-leash dog park in Chippendale for the free run the foreshore cannot give.

When to go

Early mornings are calmest and coolest. It suits social, lead-trained dogs that take crowds, bikes and city noise in their stride.
