Hunt Club Wetlands

Known locally as the Hunt Club Wetlands track, this winding path runs through the wetland reserve in the Hunt Club estate at Cranbourne East. It is an on-lead neighbourhood walk past duck ponds and reed beds full of waterbirds.

Lead rules

The City of Casey requires dogs to be on a lead on public tracks and in reserves unless an area is signed off-lead. Treat the whole wetland walk as on-lead.

The walk

The path is paved concrete with boardwalk sections, winding between ponds, reeds and native plantings. Birdlife is the main show, so a steady, sniffy pace suits it.

Street parking is on the residential streets bordering the wetlands.

Water and shade

Shade is intermittent, and parts of the track are open to full sun. Water points on the path are unconfirmed, so bring a bottle and bowl, and use the bins at the entry points.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, Casey Fields Dog Park in Cranbourne East is fully fenced with agility gear.

When to go

Mornings and cooler days are best, given the open stretches. The smooth paved surface suits older dogs and short walks close to home.
