Crafers to Stirling Trail

Known officially as the Crafers-Stirling Circuit, this 4.2-kilometre loop in the Adelaide Hills links the two townships past historic homes and cool-climate gardens. Dogs are welcome on lead, which matters here because neighbouring Cleland National Park bans them.

Adelaide Hills Council requires dogs on a lead for the whole circuit.

The walk

The loop is marked in orange and shares stretches with the historic Pioneer Women's Trail. Expect loose, uneven surfaces, quiet country lanes and dirt or gravel reserve paths, with some moderate climbs.

Big deciduous trees and native bush keep much of it shaded, and it is far quieter than the busy Mount Lofty tracks.

Water and parking

There is no water on the route, so bring enough for your dog. Bins are near the trailheads and township entries, and street parking is easy in both Stirling and Crafers.

Make a day of it

For a second walk, the Woorabinda Bushland Loop is close by in Stirling. Lunch at Marshi's Kitchen rounds out the day.

The shade makes it a fair summer option, and the hills suit dogs with some stamina rather than those who need a flat, even path.
