Woorabinda Bushland Loop

The Woorabinda Bushland Loop winds through four linked reserves on the edge of Stirling, circling a reed-fringed lake under tall stringybark forest. Dogs stay on lead throughout, and the shady canopy keeps it pleasant on a warm day.

Lead rules

Adelaide Hills Council requires dogs on a lead no longer than 2 metres, under effective control and on the formed paths at all times. The rule protects a reserve rich in birdlife and koalas.

The walk

About 4 kilometres of tracks run through Woorabinda, Hender, Madurta and Stirling Park reserves, which together cover 34 hectares. Paths are formed earth and gravel, with timber boardwalk near the wetland.

The lake has a bird hide, and the valley follows the Aldgate Creek catchment. Canopy cover is generous for most of the way.

Max: Stay on the formed paths and keep the lead short near the lake. The birdlife around those reeds is the whole point of the reserve.

Getting started

The main car park is by the lake off Woorabinda Drive, with smaller entry points around the surrounding streets. Bins and bag dispensers are usually at the main entries on Woorabinda Drive, Ethel Street and Branch Road.

Plan on carrying water and a collapsible bowl for the dog.

Make a day of it

Stirling's main street is close. Finish at Marshi's Kitchen or pick up something sweet at Red Cacao Chocolatier.

Summer is when the shade really earns its keep, and the loop suits calm dogs happy to stick to a path.
