Challenger Reserve

Challenger Reserve, on the corner of Challenger and Hope avenues in Manning, pairs open playing fields with a sealed perimeter path. Parts of it are used as a dog exercise area, and the rest of the reserve is on lead.

Lead rules

The City of South Perth manages the reserve. Let your dog off only where signs mark the dog exercise area, and keep the lead on everywhere else.

Dogs must stay out of the bushland pockets and at least 5 metres from the playground.

The walk

Asphalt paths wind around the fields under mature trees, and the reserve reaches toward the edge of the Canning River, with connecting paths to explore.

Water, shade and parking

There are water taps around the reserve and bins near the sports pavilions. Trees around the edge give shade, but the fields themselves are open.

Parking is on site and along Challenger Avenue, though it gets tight during weekend sport.

For a longer walk on another day, George Burnett Park is also in the neighbourhood.

When to go

Weekday mornings are quieter than weekends, when organised sport fills the fields and the car park. The flat paths make it an easy option for older dogs.
