Burrendah Park

Burrendah Park in Willetton pairs an easy loop of about a kilometre with something many suburban parks lack, a fully fenced northern oval where dogs can stretch out.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Canning lists Burrendah as an approved dog exercise area, so dogs can be off lead under effective control. The firm exception is organised sport.

Keep dogs off any playing field while a game or team practice is under way. If recall is still a work in progress, the fenced northern oval is the safer place to let go of the lead.

The walk

The circuit is flat and mixes open grass with paved footpaths, the sealed stretch running down the east side. You pass sports ovals, cricket nets, a playground and a skate area, with mature trees scattered around the edges.

Drinking fountains, bins and public toilets are all on site, and the toilets are generally open from 5.30am to 8.30pm. Park off Burrendah Avenue or Burrendah Boulevard.

Make a day of it

Coffee afterwards is easy, with B&L Espresso Bar in Willetton or Espressoul Coffee & Kitchen over in Riverton.

When to go

Shade is only partial, so summer walks belong early or late in the day. Glance at the fields before you unclip, since sport takes priority whenever it is on.
