Main Yarra Trail(Bulleen)

Through Bulleen, the river path signposted as the Main Yarra Trail runs past parkland such as Banksia Park and AJ Burkitt Reserve. Many locals call it the Yarra River Trail, and dogs are welcome as long as they stay on lead.

Lead rules

Manningham City Council wants dogs leashed on the shared path and within 5 metres of it, and in the active reserves along the way.

Off-lead running happens in nearby parks instead, such as Koonung Creek Linear Park and the signed sections of the Bulleen and Banksia reserves.

The walk

The surface is mostly concrete or asphalt, with the odd stretch of firm gravel or packed earth in the park pockets. Expect sweeping river bends under big river red gums, open grassy parkland and wetland birds.

Max: Bikes use this path too. A short lead on the river bends keeps everyone out of trouble.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead finish, head to the Morris Williams Reserve Dog Off Leash Area, or keep wandering through Bulleen Park.

When to go

The sealed surface makes this a good pick after rain and an easy one for older dogs. Bring water for the dog on warm days.
