Brushy Creek Linear Trail

Running about 5 kilometres from the Maroondah Highway towards Mooroolbark and Montrose, the Brushy Creek Linear Trail is a flat, sealed green corridor through Croydon North. Dogs are welcome on lead for the whole length.

Lead rules

Maroondah City Council manages the trail, which carries on into Yarra Ranges Council land. It is a shared path for walkers and cyclists, so dogs stay on a lead at all times.

The walk

The path follows the creek past local reserves, native grasses and established suburban trees. Because it links several neighbourhoods, you can walk a short stretch or turn it into a longer out-and-back.

Drinking fountains with dog bowls are spaced along the path, and bins sit near the main entries. Parking is on the street at the cross streets and reserves rather than in one big car park.

Mature trees give partial shade, though some open creek sections get full sun.

For an off-lead run, Nangathan Way Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is nearby, and The Scented Garden in Croydon is a pleasant coffee stop.

Flat and sealed from end to end, this suits senior dogs and easy daily walks. On hot afternoons, stick to the shadier stretches or go early.
