Nangathan Way Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Nangathan Way Reserve is a steep, hilly off-leash reserve in Croydon North, mostly used by locals for a proper uphill workout rather than a flat wander. It is small and unfenced, so it suits dogs with solid recall more than nervous or bolt-prone ones.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash across the open grass, but must go back on lead within 15 metres of the playground or the picnic and barbecue area, and on the shared path. Keep control at the top of the hill, since the reserve borders the road.

What's there. A small fenced playground sits at the bottom of the hill, with a picnic table under a shelter and a bin for waste. There is no water tap on site, so bring a bowl and your own water, especially given the climb.

Getting there. The reserve is at 118 Nangathan Way, Croydon North, with limited on-street parking along the road. It's a fair walk or short bus ride from Croydon Station; the 670 bus passes nearby on Maroondah Highway/York Road, leaving a walk up to the reserve itself.

When to go. Quietest mid-morning or mid-afternoon on weekdays; expect more company after 4pm and on weekend mornings. Good for energetic dogs that want a workout; less ideal for dogs that prefer flat, fenced space.
