Warrien Reserve is a bigger, better-equipped off-leash reserve in Croydon North, mixing a central open grass area for running with surrounding nature trails, a wildflower sanctuary and wetlands. It's a solid step up from a bare paddock: proper facilities, real shade options, and enough space to make a morning of it.
The rules. Dogs can run off-leash only in the designated central grass area. Once you're off that grass, on any path or near the playground, dogs go back on lead. The usual 15 metre buffer applies around playgrounds, barbecue and picnic areas, and organised sport or training. You need visual and voice control at all times, and you're expected to clean up after your dog, though it's worth carrying your own bags as a backup.
What's there. An updated playground, a covered picnic shelter with barbecue and seating, and public toilets (including an accessible toilet). Drinking fountains with dog bowls are on site, so unlike some smaller local reserves, you're not stuck bringing your own water. Walking tracks loop through native bushland around the open area if your dog needs a longer, on-leash wander first.
Getting there. The reserve is on Warrien Road, Croydon North, with off-street parking right off the road and accessible parking near the playground. The 671 bus stops at the reserve entrance on Warrien Road.
Nearby with the dogs. Lilydale Lake, with its own well-known off-leash areas, is about seven to ten minutes' drive away if you want to extend the outing.

When to go. Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons are the busiest, when locals are exercising dogs after work. Mid-morning on a weekday gives you the most breathing room. Good for dogs that like open space to run, with the trails as a calmer fallback if the main area is crowded or the day is hot, since the central lawn has limited shade.
