Warrien Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Warrien Reserve is a well-equipped off-leash reserve on Warrien Road in Croydon North, mixing a central open grass area for running with bushland walking tracks, a wildflower sanctuary and wetlands around the edge. It is a proper morning out rather than a bare paddock, with real facilities and shade to back it up.

The dog setup

Per Maroondah City Council, dogs can be off-leash only in the designated central open grassed area, and the reserve is not a fully fenced dog park, so recall needs to be reliable before you unclip. The lead goes back on the moment you leave that grass: on any shared path or walking track, within 15 metres of the playground, near the barbecue and picnic shelters, and during organised sport or training. Visual and voice control is required at all times, and you are expected to clean up after your dog, though carrying your own bags as a backup is worth the pocket space.

The surrounding tracks loop through native bushland and past the wetlands, which makes a good on-leash warm-up or cool-down around the off-leash run. Drinking fountains with dog bowls are on site, alongside an updated playground, a covered picnic shelter with barbecue and seating, and public toilets including an accessible toilet.

Pepsi: the open grass is where the zoomies happen, but the wetland loops are the change of pace afterwards. Just remember the lead comes back on once you step off the lawn.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 54 Warrien Road, Croydon North, with off-street parking off the road and accessible parking near the playground. The 671 bus stops at the reserve entrance on Warrien Road if you are coming by public transport.

When to go

Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons draw the locals exercising dogs after work. Mid-morning on weekdays is the quiet window if your dog needs space to settle or you are working on recall.

If your dog needs a fully enclosed run, Eastfield Fenced Dog Park in Croydon is about eight minutes south. For a bigger outing, the Lillydale Lake north west off-leash area adds water views and wide circuits, and The Lilydale General in Lilydale is a solid coffee stop on the way home.
