Broadmeadows Valley Park Trail

Broadmeadows Valley Park Trail runs a paved path along Moonee Ponds Creek and Yuroke Creek through Broadmeadows, Meadow Heights and Jacana. It mixes on-lead trail walking with signed off-lead zones for a proper run.

Leads and the off-lead area

Hume City Council manages the park. Dogs can go off lead in the signposted areas, including sections off Johnstone Street and the Northern Reach near Shankland Boulevard.

Leads go back on near playgrounds and along certain reserve boundaries, so watch the signs as you move between zones.

The walk

The concrete shared path suits walking, running and cycling. It crosses a wide valley floor of grassy wetland and native plantings, with plenty of birdlife along the creeks.

Mature trees offer some shade, but large open stretches sit in full sun.

Getting started

Park off Barry Road or Shankland Boulevard. Bins sit at the main entrances, ovals and path junctions, but dog water stations are sparse, so carry your own.

Make a day of it

For another off-lead space, try Will Will Rook Dog Off Leash Area, or stop at Gate House Cafe in Dallas.

Cooler mornings suit this open valley best. It is a good fit for big, energetic dogs that need room to stretch out.
