Blackburn Creeklands

Blackburn Creeklands is a green corridor along Gardiners Creek in Blackburn, linking Blacks Walk, Kalang Park and Furness Park. It feels a long way from the eastern suburbs, and dogs are welcome on lead throughout.

Lead rules

Whitehorse City Council requires dogs on lead at all times across the whole corridor. The rule protects native birds, plants and the wetland billabongs.

The walk

Tracks are mostly gravel and unsealed, largely flat and well kept. Towering remnant eucalypts give steady shade, and kookaburras are regulars.

There's off-road parking at key entries, notably near the Pakenham Street entrance by Kalang Park. Bins sit at the entries and main junctions.

Pepsi: Water is scarce once you're in the bush, so a bowl in the pocket is worth it.

Make a day of it

For off-lead time, Nicoll Park Dog Off Leash Area in Nunawading is nearby. Battle in Blackburn North is a handy coffee stop.

When to go

The shade makes summer walks comfortable, and the flat tracks suit older dogs. It's a good pick for dogs that enjoy a calm, sniff-heavy walk.
