Bell Park

Bell Park sits on Hill Street in the centre of Emu Park, a shady lawn looking straight over Fisherman's Beach. Dogs walk on lead in the park, and the beach below has an off-lead stretch on weekdays.

Lead rules

Livingstone Shire Council requires dogs on lead in the park. On Fisherman's Beach, dogs may be off lead from the beach access point 150 metres north of Bell Park up to Tanby Point, but not on weekends or public holidays.

The walk

Concrete footpaths and bike paths weave through big shaded lawns, and paths lead straight down to the sand. Carry on along the beach with views out to the Keppel Islands, where the sand firms up as the tide drops.

Before you go

The park has toilets, picnic tables, a playground and electric barbecues, with the shops and cafes of Emu Park just across the road. Bring water for the dog.

Grab a coffee at Ocean Brew Eatery before or after the walk.

When to go

A weekday at low tide is the sweet spot, when the off-lead beach is open and the sand is firm underfoot. Markets run every third Sunday, which suits dogs that are calm in a crowd.
