Both properties take dogs inside as well as in the grounds, subject to normal house rules: pets stay off the beds and furniture. Pet fees, nightly tariffs or limits on dog numbers can apply depending on the booking, so confirm the details with the managing agent before you commit. The gardens are established and the grounds are grassy and set back from the road, so there is room to stretch legs without leaving the property, and outdoor taps make it easy to top up water bowls or rinse sandy paws at the end of a beach session.

Worth knowing

Zilzie Beach starts at the back gate. Livingstone Shire Council designates it off-leash daily before 8am and after 4pm, with a leash required in between, so the first walk of the day is the easy one. Bring your dog's own bedding and bowls, and check the off-leash window before your first morning because the 8am switch to leash-only catches holidaymakers out.

Max: the garden path straight onto the sand is the whole reason to book here. Early walk, off-leash, straight back for coffee.

Getting there and parking

Zilzie is a short drive north of Emu Park along the Capricorn Coast, with free on-site parking at both homes, which makes unloading crates and beach gear simple. Emu Park's cafes and shops are close by for supplies and coffee runs.

Close by with the dogs

For coffee, Bonjour Mate Patisserie is in Zilzie itself, and Ocean Brew Eatery and Two Sisters Coffee Bar are both short drives along the coast. Tasman Holiday Parks Fisherman's Beach at Emu Park is the alternative if you want a caravan-park style base.
