Arthur Calwell Hill Loop Walk

This Calwell loop climbs from the local shops through quiet streets and parkland to circle Arthur Calwell Hill, paying back the effort with views over Tuggeranong. Dogs stay on lead from start to finish.

Lead rules

Transport Canberra and City Services requires dogs on a lead on streets, footpaths and urban parkland, and this walk runs through all three. Treat it as an on-lead loop.

The climb

The walk starts near Calwell Shopping Centre, where there is parking around Webber Crescent. From there it heads uphill on footpaths and packed parkland tracks, with some sets of steps.

The upper slopes are fairly exposed, while the parkland lower down has mature trees.

Water and bins

There is no dog water on the hill, so carry your own. Bins are around the shops and playgrounds at the start but thin out higher up, so hang on to your bags until you are back down.

Who it suits

Fit dogs that enjoy a climb will like it. With the steps and the open upper slopes, older dogs are better off going on a cool day.
