Lanyon Dog Park Exercise Area

The Lanyon Dog Park in Gordon is a purpose-built, fully fenced off-leash park serving the southern end of the Tuggeranong Valley. The headline numbers set it apart: 3,630 square metres of grass play space ringed by a 1.8-metre-high black chain-link fence, with separate zones for large and small dogs.

The dog setup

The split layout is the park's real asset. Large and small dogs get distinct grass zones, so a timid or young dog can play without negotiating the big crowd. Agility equipment is installed for structured exercise, and mature native trees and plantings provide shade over the open lawns. For owners there is basic shaded seating, and the on-site gravel car park includes two accessible concrete spaces.

The rules at the gate

Off-leash play applies strictly inside the fenced enclosures, with dogs on-lead on the surrounding suburban streets until you are in. Handlers stay in the park, maintain effective voice control, and carry a leash at all times. Waste goes in the on-site bins immediately, and any dog showing aggression is expected to be leashed and removed straight away.

Pepsi: the separate small-dog area is why this park works if yours is still learning their manners. Use the split rather than hoping the big side stays calm.

Getting there and when to go

The park sits at the intersection of Woodcock Drive and Jim Pike Avenue in Gordon, reachable via the Tuggeranong Parkway or Point Hut Drive, and several bus routes along Woodcock Drive stop within walking distance. It serves a growing valley, so Sunday mornings, Monday afternoons and weekday evenings run busy; weekday mornings and midday give the quietest, roomiest sessions.

Close by with the dogs
