Argyle Reserve

Argyle Reserve on Poath Road is a local sports reserve with a designated off-leash dog area, a short walking path and a pavilion. It is a neighbourhood run more than a long walk.

Leads and the off-lead area

The City of Monash designates a dog off-leash area here, and dogs must stay under effective control. They are banned from the sportsground whenever organised sport or training is on.

The reserve is fenced along Poath Road with a gate but open near the corners and pavilion, so keep a lead handy for dogs with patchy recall.

What's there

Concrete paths skirt the open grass past a nature-play playground and outdoor fitness equipment. Drinking fountains with a low bowl, bins and a poo bag dispenser are provided.

Shade is limited to structures near the picnic and playground areas, so the open field gets hot.

Getting started

Park on site next to the pavilion on the eastern side.

Make a day of it

Temperance Society and Chichi House Cafe are both in Hughesdale for a coffee afterwards.

Go early in summer given the lack of shade, and check for training sessions before letting dogs run on the field.
