Angophora Reserve

Angophora Reserve is a patch of tall bushland on the edge of Bilgola Plateau, running toward Avalon Beach under a canopy of towering angophoras. It is a declared wildlife protection area, so this is a quiet, leashed bushwalk rather than a place to let dogs run.

Lead rules

Northern Beaches Council requires dogs on a lead at all times and only on the formal, council-maintained tracks. The rules protect native wildlife and culturally significant Aboriginal heritage sites in the reserve.

Max: Stay on the formal track and keep the lead short. Pack bags and water, as bins and water points are scarce on the bush tracks.

The walk

The track is natural bush, with dirt, rock and formed path sections. Expect big sandstone overhangs and lush native plants along the way.

The canopy is dense, so the tracks stay shaded and cool even in warmer months. Street parking is near the entry points on the plateau edges, such as around Angophora Close.

Make a day of it

Grab a coffee at The Deli Bilgola cafe, or stretch the legs again at Plateau Park.

When to go

A hot summer day suits this walk well thanks to the shade. It is best for calm dogs who walk nicely on a lead.
