Herron Point Farm Stay

Herron Point Farm Stay is a 160-acre rural camping property at 933 Old Bunbury Road, West Coolup, about five minutes off Forrest Highway and under ten minutes from Herron Point on the Peel-Harvey estuary. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, which is the draw for campers who want a working-farm base within reach of the estuary rather than a formal caravan park.

Talk to the host before booking - dogs are accepted pending a discussion first, and they need to be well behaved and managed around the farm's livestock and wildlife. Once on site, keep your dog on a leash and contained to your campsite, because this is a nature-based area. The serious warning: 1080 poison baits are used for pest control across the bushland and reserves in this part of WA, and they are fatal to dogs. Straying off the property boundary or letting your dog range into nearby bush puts it at real risk, so the farm boundary is the hard limit for walks.

Worth knowing

Rates run around $48 to $50 a night, booked through Hipcamp. There are no public toilets, showers or potable water, so bring your own water for you and the dog and be fully self-contained. Sites are large and private across native bush, pastures and seasonal wetlands, with fire pits and flat hard ground near the old cattle yards, and a 4WD is recommended for some areas. Expect Highland cows at a distance, kangaroos and plenty of birdlife.

Getting there and parking

Turn off Forrest Highway onto Old Bunbury Road; the entrance is signed at number 933. Park at your site. If you want walks beyond the boundary instead, the public Herron Point campground area on the estuary has its own rules, so check the Shire of Murray signage before taking your dog in.

Close by with the dogs

Pinjarra and Harvey are the nearest towns for supplies - Dôme Café - Pinjarra is an easy stop on the way through. If you want full facilities, Pinjarra Caravan Park and Harvey Caravan Park are the conventional alternatives, and Blue Hills Farmstay is a different farm-stay option.
