Capital Country Holiday Park

Capital Country Holiday Park at Sutton, on the Canberra side of Lake George, is one of the more deliberate dog parks in the region: it has two pet-friendly bungalows and four fully fenced powered sites marketed as Dog Freedom sites, each sized for a specific van length.

Dogs at the park

The cabin side is strict: Bungalow 1 and Bungalow 2 are the only accommodation that takes pets, and you must advise reception at booking because these options are limited and subject to availability. For caravanners, the Dog Freedom sites are CPS 50, 55, 63 and 69, all fenced so your dog can be off-lead within your own site, with maximum van sizes of roughly 22, 27, 30 and 42 feet respectively. Dogs are also accepted on standard powered and unpowered sites on a lead. Park rules: pets are never left unattended, continuous barking or yapping is not permitted, and guests sign the park's pet rules agreement before arrival. Certified guide and companion dogs are welcome year-round across the whole park. The $50 cleaning surcharge applies if staff have to clean up dog litter, so bring bags and use them.

The vibe

A large park with camp kitchen, mini golf, jumping pillow, drive-through sites and a lake-view cabin, set in quiet horse-and-vineyard country about 25 minutes from Canberra. The fenced Dog Freedom sites are the standout: your dog gets a secure patch of its own, which is rare at powered-site parks.

Getting there and parking

Sutton sits just off the Kings Highway between Queanbeyan and Bungendore, roughly a 30 minute drive from Canberra's centre. Drive-through sites make van arrivals with a dog easy.

Close by with the dogs

There is no council off-lead enclosure in Sutton itself, so for proper off-lead time drive to the Dandeleo Dog Park at Bungendore. For another base nearby, the ibis Styles Canberra Eaglehawk is just down the road and Bungendore Showground camping is another pet-tolerant stop. In Bungendore village, Flock at the Carrington is the sit-down option after a day of driving.
