Bungendore Showground and camping/caravanning park

Bungendore Showground is a large, flat camping and caravanning ground at 71 Mathews Lane in Bungendore, about forty minutes east of Canberra, set up for tents, camper trailers, caravans and big rigs rather than cabins. Dogs are welcome to stay overnight on your site as standard, which makes this one of the simplest pet-friendly stops on the Kings Highway run.

The policy is straightforward: dogs stay with you on your camping or caravan site, kept under control and supervised at all times, secured appropriately, and cleaned up after immediately. No specific pet fees or size limits are published for casual camping, but confirm the details when you book because conditions can vary when events are on. Casual stays run to a maximum of seven nights, with toilets, hot showers, power, water and a dump point on the grounds.

Max: check the showground event calendar before you lock in a date. Show weekends fill the place with dogs of every description, which is either the best night of your dog's year or completely overwhelming.

The vibe

This is a practical, no-frills overnight base rather than a resort. Amenities are clean and showers are hot, the caretakers keep things orderly, and the large flat area gives dogs room to stretch on the lead. The grounds also host horse events and dog shows, so a quiet night depends on what is scheduled.

Getting there and parking

The showground sits at the edge of town on Mathews Lane, an easy turn-off for long rigs coming off the Kings Highway, with parking at your site. Bungendore's shops, bakeries and pubs are a short walk or one minute's drive.

While you're out there
