Maliyan Park

The green space on Aspinall Street in north Watson is Maliyan Park, a small neighbourhood park that opened in 2024 as part of the suburb's renewal. Dogs are welcome, but only on a lead.

Lead rules

ACT rules for urban public spaces keep dogs on a leash here. They also need to stay at least 10 metres from the park's playground.

What you'll see

The park is built around Ngunnawal culture, with art installations and native plantings centred on a large structure of Maliyan, the wedge-tailed eagle that gives the park its name.

Paths are concrete and paved, so it is an easy stroll for any dog. The plantings are still young, which means little overhead shade for now.

Before you go

Street parking is easy along Aspinall Street, and public bins are built into the new streetscape. Carry water and a bowl, as dog water points are limited.

Make a day of it

Finish near the Watson shops at The Knox Made in Watson, which has outdoor seating for a post-walk coffee.

When to go

In summer, go early or late while the trees are still growing. This is a short leg-stretch close to home, best as a quick daily walk rather than a big outing.
