Lottie’s Cottage, Saddle Hut @ Baranduda Homestead

Lottie's Cottage and the Saddle Hut are two farm-stay accommodations at Baranduda Homestead, at 840 Kiewa Valley Highway in Staghorn Flat, about 15 minutes south of Wodonga in northeast Victoria. The reason dog owners book here is the walking: the property backs onto Baranduda Regional Park, and a revegetated wildlife corridor runs through the land with tracks straight from the door.

Dogs at the homestead

Both cottages welcome dogs and cats inside, with no stated size restrictions and no listed pet fee, though it is worth confirming any charge with the host when booking. The farm itself is not fully fenced, but a dedicated dog yard is available when you need your dog secured. Guests are asked to bring pet bedding and keep dogs off the furniture, and because this is a working and living property, dogs stay under control around the farm. A resident kelpie is part of the welcome party.

The place

Lottie's Cottage is a restored two-bedroom cottage sleeping up to six, self-contained with a starter breakfast, air conditioning and laundry, with a two-night minimum. The Saddle Hut is a one-bedroom studio dating to around 1885, renovated for couples, with an outdoor heated spa overlooking the olive grove. Wide verandahs, farmland and birdlife set the pace; a hot tub and bush walks draw repeat bookings.

Worth knowing

Save the off-lead time for the designated tracks and regional park trails, and keep the lead on around the farm itself. Stock may be present, and the unfenced boundaries mean a wandering dog is a real risk. Confirm the dog yard setup and any fee before locking in dates.

While you're out there

Closer to town, Roxy's Cafe in Baranduda makes an easy stop, and the fenced Belvoir Park Dog Park in Wodonga gives a secure off-lead run. Lake Hume is a drive away for water-loving dogs, and the historic towns of Yackandandah and Beechworth sit 15 to 30 minutes off with dog-friendly cafes.
