Corsair Cottage

Corsair Cottage is a classic two bedroom beach house at 22 Bellarine Highway in Queenscliff, directly opposite the coast, and it takes dogs inside as well as out. It sleeps up to six with a queen bed and twin bunks, and the location does half the work of a dog holiday for you: cross the road and you are about 300 metres from a sheltered swimming beach with a dog-friendly stretch.

Pets are welcome inside the cottage on the condition they stay off the furniture, and guests are asked to clean up after them. The yard is fully fenced, so there is a secure outdoor space without you standing at the gate. The hosts are known for thoughtful touches for canine guests, including dog biscuits and toys left as a welcome, and the outdoor shower and outdoor bath earn their keep at the end of a sandy beach day. Book through the usual platforms such as Stayz or Airbnb and mention your dog when you book.

Pepsi: the outdoor shower is the whole holiday. Sandy dog goes in sandy, sandy dog comes out clean, and the cottage never knows the difference.

The cottage

Expect a simple, well-loved beach house rather than a designer build: two bedrooms, room for a family or two couples, and everything walkable from the front door. Its foot-traffic location across from the water is the reason people rebook it.

Getting there

Queenscliff sits at the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula, about 90 minutes from Melbourne via the Geelong road. The cottage is on the Bellarine Highway as it runs through town, with the harbour, the historic precinct and the ferry across the bay all within a short drive.

Close by with the dogs

The Point Lonsdale Dog Beach is the big off-leash run nearby, and the Shelly Beach via Queenscliff Beach walk makes a good on-lead morning loop. For coffee, La Loca Cafe is dog friendly in town, and if Corsair is booked out, the historic Seaview House also welcomes dogs.
