Punthill Narrabundah

Punthill Narrabundah is an 86-apartment property on Jerrabomberra Avenue in Canberra's inner south, a short drive from Manuka, Kingston Foreshore and the parliamentary triangle. It is one of the few apartment hotels in the city that takes dogs, with a limited number of pet-friendly rooms, so the planning rule is simple: contact the hotel before you book to confirm a pet room is available.

Pets are accepted in designated rooms only, and approval has to be arranged with the property before the reservation is made. Standard domestic pets are welcome but restricted breeds are not, a nightly pet fee applies on top of the room rate, and the one condition that catches most travellers is that pets cannot be left unattended in the apartment at any time. The ground-floor studios with private enclosed courtyards are the pick for dog owners, giving your dog a secure outdoor space straight off the room. The apartments come with kitchenettes or full kitchens and in-room laundry, which makes longer stays with a dog much easier.

The vibe

This is a practical, self-contained base rather than a resort. Narrabundah is leafy and residential, with grassy verges and quiet streets for morning and evening walks, and the shops and cafes of Kingston and Manuka are minutes away. Jerrabomberra Wetlands and Lake Burley Griffin's eastern foreshore are close for longer on-lead rambles.

Getting there and parking

The property sits just off Canberra Avenue, about ten minutes from the city centre and Civic, with on-site parking so you are not moving the car with a dog in tow. The airport is roughly fifteen minutes. If you are flying in rather than driving, factor in that a car makes the no-unattended rule far easier to work around.

While you're out there

Kingston View Drive Fenced Dog Park is the closest off-lead run on the Kingston foreshore side, and Kita in Narrabundah and ONA Coffee House Cafe in Fyshwick are both easy dog-friendly coffee stops. For a different style of stay, Abode Kingston and ibis Styles Canberra are nearby alternatives.
