Free camp on the river

The pet policy. Dogs are allowed to stay overnight at no cost. Keep them on a lead in shared, unfenced areas near the riverbank. This is a natural river environment, so supervision around wildlife and the water's edge is non-negotiable. There are no bins or water taps - bring all food, water, and waste bags for your dog and carry everything out.

The place. Suitable for tents, campers, and vans with their own facilities. There are no toilets, showers, water, or rubbish collection. Strict Leave No Trace applies. It is peaceful during the week but can get busy on weekends with local day-trippers and BBQ traffic.

Getting there. Access is via local dirt roads near Nichols Point (Q6VH+QG). Parking is unmarked on natural ground with limited informal spaces along the riverbank. Roads can be narrow, so check your vehicle clearance before committing.

Nearby with the dogs. For a proper off-lead run, head to the Mildura Fenced Dog Park (Rio Vista Park) back in town. Coffee options in Mildura include Bobby + Me and Shippys Cafe. If you need a base with actual amenities, NRMA Mildura Riverside Holiday Park is the closest managed alternative.

Best visited on weekdays or outside school holidays for a quieter stay. Because this is an unofficial, unmanaged site with no formal oversight, confirm local access conditions before you drive out. Good for self-sufficient campers who want a free night on the Murray with their dog.
