Kings Billabong Nature Trail

The Kings Billabong Nature Trail winds through Parks Victoria's Kings Billabong Park at Nichols Point, just outside Mildura. River red gums, lagoons and bird hides make it a rewarding outing, and dogs must be on lead.

Lead rules

Parks Victoria allows dogs in Kings Billabong Park on a lead. It is a wildlife reserve, so read the signs at the trailhead in case a section is closed to pets.

The walk

Flat gravel, crusher dust and dirt tracks make easy going. The trail passes river red gums and black box, with wetlands where pelicans, black swans and spoonbills gather.

Shade comes and goes, and open stretches get very hot in summer. Snakes are about in warm weather.

Max: There are no dog fountains or many bins out here. Carry water, a bowl and your bags back to the car.

Getting started

Park near the main billabong walk areas. Some access roads are unsealed and can be rutted.

Nearby, the Irymple Green Belt makes a shorter town walk. Kings Billabong is best on cool autumn and winter mornings.
