Murray Bridge Show Grounds

The Murray Bridge Show Grounds double as an RV-friendly camping ground on Old Princes Highway on the eastern side of town, home to the annual Murray Bridge Show and, the rest of the year, one of the cheapest overnight stops in the region. Dogs are welcome throughout the camping area on a lead.

Dogs at the show grounds

Dogs are permitted across the outdoor camping area as long as they stay on a leash whenever they are outside your vehicle, and you pick up after them straight away. Because the ground only takes fully self-contained rigs, dogs settle inside with you overnight rather than in tents or annexes. There are no dog amenities on site, so carry your own water bowl and waste bags. The ground is open and unfenced, so keep dogs leashed and close after dark.

The setup

This is strictly an RV park: no tents or camper trailers, and every vehicle must carry its own toilet and shower because there are none on site, nor a dump point, with the nearest in the main town. Sites are large, level gravel and dirt pads with room to manoeuvre a big rig, spaced at least three metres apart. Powered sites with water run about $20 a night and unpowered about $10, with stays capped at a week. No bookings are taken: it is first in, best dressed, with fees collected in the late afternoon or via an honesty box. Getting there

The address is 113 Old Princes Highway, Murray Bridge East SA 5253, with flat, easy access straight off the main route into town. Turn up early in peak periods to secure a site.

Close by with the dogs

For a proper leg stretch, the fenced Johnstone Park dog park and White Park dog park in town both give an off-leash run, and the riverfront reserves over the bridge suit an on-leash evening walk.
