Johnstone Park Fenced Dog Park

The fenced dog park inside Johnstone Park sits on the corner of 6th Street and Maurice Road in central Murray Bridge, and it is the town's most complete off-leash setup: a secure run with separate sections for large and small dogs, real shade, and enough equipment to keep a regular occupied.

Leash status

Once inside the fence your dog can be off-leash under effective voice and visual control, but leads go back on for the entry and exit. Murray Bridge council rules cap it at two dogs per handler, handlers need to be 16 or over unless accompanied by an adult, and every dog wears a collar with a current registration disc. Bag dispensers are provided and pickups are mandatory.

The dog setup

The run is expansive open lawn framed by mature trees, which is a rare combination in a regional dog park: long throws in the open, genuine shade on the edges. Agility equipment is in place but not regularly sanitised, so skip it or wipe it down if your dog mouths everything. Use the large and small dog split, especially if yours is timid or an older dog who does not need a cattle dog's opinion.

Pepsi: bring your own water. The on-site taps are not something you can rely on, and a thirsty dog on a 35 degree Murraylands afternoon is not negotiable.

Getting there and parking

Access is off 6th Street or Maurice Road, a few minutes from the Murray Bridge town centre and the riverfront. There is plenty of on-site parking including accessible parking and accessible paths. Local buses stop near the Maurice Road and 6th Street corner.

When to go

Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings are the regular crew's slots, so pick them for socialisation and avoid them for a quiet training session. Summer afternoons belong to the shade trees, but mornings are still kinder.

Close by with the dogs

The White Park Fenced Dog Park is the town's other fenced run, and the Tailem Bend Dog Park covers the highway side. St George's Bakehouse does the post-park pastry run, and the Adelaide Road Motor Lodge is a pet friendly base if you are staying over.
