Glen Mervyn Lodge

Glen Mervyn Lodge is a 50-acre working farm retreat at 1660 Collie-Preston Road in Mumballup, about two hours south of Perth in the Preston Valley. A farmhouse lodge and a separate, fully fenced cottage take dogs indoors by prior arrangement, and the jarrah bushland and paddocks around them are where a dog holiday actually happens.

Dogs stay at both the Lodge and the Cottage with advance notice from the host, and they are allowed indoors. The Cottage is the stronger pick for off-leash security: it is fully fenced, with a gate opening directly onto the paddocks, and guests report enclosed yard spaces at both. A pet cleaning fee applies at checkout - $70 for the Lodge, $45 for the Cottage - so confirm arrangements when you book rather than assuming same-day availability.

The vibe

This is a working farm ringed by jarrah bushland, with two resident alpacas, Lavender and Iris, and a resident Golden Retriever on site. Guests consistently describe the cottages as warm, spacious and private, with clear-night stargazing and a genuinely relaxing atmosphere. Fifty acres of farmland and bush margin give you room for on-site walks, picnic spots through the grounds and farm animals to meet at a safe distance.

Getting there and parking

The property is on Collie-Preston Road at Mumballup, between Donnybrook and Collie in WA's south west. Free on-site parking with room for groups sits at the door, and the Bibbulmun Track runs adjacent to the property, giving direct access to one of WA's long-distance walking routes - leashed only, as it crosses wildlife habitat.

Close by with the dogs

Glen Mervyn Dam is a short drive away and handles swimming, kayaking and dog walking, and bird watching and scenic drives through the Preston Valley round out the area. If you need a town stop, Ruby's Brew in Donnybrook is the dog-friendly cafe option. If Glen Mervyn is booked out, Wambenger Lodge and Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast in Collie are the pet-friendly alternatives roughly 20 kilometres south.
