Zeby's Beach House

Zeby's Beach House is a two-bedroom holiday rental in Mount Coolum, about 250 metres from the beach, that takes dogs of any size and charges no extra pet fee. It sleeps up to four, so the shape that fits best is a couple, or a small family, with one or two dogs, walking to the sand rather than driving to it.

Dogs are welcome inside the house but stay off the furniture and out of the bedrooms, and the main living areas are tiled, which makes sandy or muddy paws a five-minute cleanup rather than a drama. If you go out without the dog, the house rules say it stays outside rather than having the run of the place unattended. A dog bowl, a sling bed and a poop scoop are supplied; bring your own towel and lead. The yard is fenced to about six feet, which covers most dogs, though a committed climber or digger deserves a test lap on arrival. Clear the yard of waste before you leave.

The house and getting there

There is a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, and a single secure garage with a remote roller door, so the car goes inside and the beach gear stays in it. Mount Coolum's small cafe strip is walkable, and the mountain itself looms over the suburb if you want a leg-burner while someone minds the dog, since the national park track does not take dogs.

The beach routine

Sunshine Coast Council runs time-share off-lead access on the Mount Coolum beachfront, with the dog exercise zone between beach access points near Wave Crescent and Merchants Parade: off lead in the early morning and evening windows, on lead the rest of the day. Read the signs at your access point, because the windows shift with the seasons and the dune vegetation behind the beach is off limits. Curlys on the Boardwalk at the surf club end is the easy post-walk feed.
