Pine Country Caravan Park

Pine Country Caravan Park sits at Moorak on the southern edge of Mount Gambier, a quiet country park minutes from the town centre, and it has built its dog offer deliberately: two dedicated dog cabins, fenced pet-friendly caravan sites and a large fully fenced off-leash paddock inside the grounds. This is one of the more complete dog setups in the Limestone Coast.

Dogs at the park

The dog cabins are limited and popular, so book well ahead; standard cabins do not take pets. The dedicated dog cabins allow dogs inside and come with a small fenced yard outside the door for quick breaks. If you are camping or caravanning instead, dogs are welcome on designated powered and unpowered sites, including fenced caravan sites. A maximum of two dogs applies per booking.

The park's conditions are specific and worth reading before you commit. Dogs must be soft-natured and well behaved regardless of breed, checked in formally on arrival, and never left unattended. They stay off the furniture in the cabins, and you are expected to respect guests who would rather not share a camp kitchen with your dog. Notify the park that you are bringing a pet before you arrive, and you will be asked to sign the park's Dog Policy Agreement at check-in.

The fenced off-leash paddock is the standout: a large, secure space inside the grounds where a dog can genuinely run, which matters in a region where most reserves require a lead.

Out and about

In town, Hastings Cunningham Reserve is Mount Gambier's main fully enclosed dog park, with separate areas for big and small dogs, and several other reserves allow off-leash exercise under voice control. Dogs on lead can walk the Blue Lake and Valley Lake crater trails, but conservation sections within the crater have tighter rules, and dogs are strictly prohibited in Umpherston Sinkhole because of the resident possums. Check signage as you move between recreation and conservation zones.

Close by with the dogs

For a secure run beyond the park's own paddock, Hastings Cunningham Reserve is the town's fenced option, and the Blue Lake Loop is the classic on-lead walk. Another base in town is Mount Gambier Central Caravan Park, and Breaking Bread is a solid coffee stop before a day of crater walks.
