The lead. Hastings Cunningham Reserve on Shepherdson Road holds Mount Gambier's fully fenced off-leash dog park, with two separate sections for big and small dogs and a double-gated entry. It is the most secure off-lead option in town and the one to choose if your dog needs a contained space.

The rules. Dogs run off-lead inside the fenced enclosure but must be on lead elsewhere in the reserve, and are not allowed in the playgrounds. Owners supervise at all times and clean up after their dogs; bag dispensers are provided. Double gates mean you can manage entries and exits safely.

What's there. Separate large-dog and small-dog zones, agility equipment and tracks, water for dogs and people, seating, and shaded spots. The park is lit, so evening visits work. Free parking is on site.

Getting there. It is at 80 Shepherdson Road, a short drive from the city centre with ample off-street parking. It is not directly on a major bus route, so driving is easiest.

The agility gear is a fun warm-up, but the real win is the fenced small-dog side - room to play without getting bowled over by the big units.

When to go. The park hosts training sessions and community meets, so it can fill up; weekday mid-mornings or afternoons are quieter. If your dog is anxious, check the enclosure first for large groups before going in. Good for dogs who need secure fencing or want agility play.
