The lead. This is Mount Gambier's off-leash dog exercise space at the Blue Lake Sports Park precinct, on the western side of the park behind the baseball diamonds. The City of Mount Gambier added a fenced area here with separate zones for large and small dogs, alongside the longer-standing open reserve at Northumberland Avenue.

The rules. Inside the fenced exercise area dogs can run off-lead, but they must stay under effective voice or hand control. A maximum of two dogs per person applies. Dogs must be on lead in the surrounding park, and are not permitted on the sporting ovals or near the children's playgrounds. Picking up after your dog is mandatory.

What's there. The fenced facility gives you secure large-dog and small-dog zones, which helps if your dog is nervous around bigger play. Public toilets sit within the wider Blue Lake Reserve precinct.

Getting there. The precinct is near Blue Lake (Warwar), reached via Jubilee Highway East or North Terrace. There is ample parking by the sporting grounds, including accessible bays. Local bus services run near North Terrace, with a short walk to the dog area.

The open Northumberland Avenue reserve is not fully fenced from the road, so if your recall is shaky stick to the fenced zones at the sports park.

When to go. Weekend afternoons and weekday evenings are the busiest. For a quieter run, aim for a weekday late morning. Good for sociable dogs who enjoy company, with the fenced small-dog zone a help for the cautious ones.
