Margaret River Bungalows

Margaret River Bungalows is a cluster of craftsman-built, self-contained three-bedroom bungalows on Stewart Street, about 500 metres from the Margaret River town centre. Selected bungalows are designated pet-friendly, which makes this a genuine walk-to-town base: leave the car in the driveway and stroll to the main strip with the dog instead of driving everywhere.

Dogs at the Margaret River Bungalows

Pets are welcome only in the specific bungalows designated pet-friendly, and prior approval is required, so book a pet-marked unit rather than assuming any bungalow will do. A pet fee of around $35 per night applies, and the usual limit is two pets per property. The house rules are firm and worth knowing before you commit: dogs stay off the furniture and out of the bedrooms, must not be left unattended at the property, and any mess outside is picked up immediately, with an extra cleaning fee of up to $200 if the unit is left in poor condition. Excessive barking is a genuine issue here because neighbours are close and the local ranger responds to noise complaints. Pack a mat or crate so the dog has its own clean spot, and dry it off before it comes back inside after rain or a beach run.

The bungalows themselves

Each bungalow is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom layout with a full kitchen, laundry with washing machine, and a fireplace for winter stays, opening onto an expansive deck. The street is quiet and leafy residential, check-in is usually by lockbox, and there is dedicated parking on site. Bring your own pet bedding and bowls, since human kitchenware cannot be used for pets.

Getting there and parking

The bungalows sit on Stewart Street, a few minutes' walk from the shops and cafes on the main strip. It is an easy arrival from Bussell Highway, and the dedicated off-street parking means unloading with a dog in tow is short and simple. Wooditjup National Park trails are within about a kilometre, and the dog-friendly beaches at Prevelly are a 5 to 10 minute drive.

For supplies and coffee within walking distance, Blue Ginger Fine Foods is a short stroll away, and Settlers Tavern is the town's long-running pub option for an evening out. For a proper off-lead run, Brookfield Dog Park is the local fenced option. If you would rather camp with the dog by the river, Riverview Tourist Park is the other pet-friendly base in town.
