Brookfield Dog Park

Brookfield Dog Park is the Shire's fully fenced off-leash enclosure within Brookfield Reserve on Brookfield Avenue, a few minutes from the centre of Margaret River. For a town surrounded by bushland and beaches where most exercise areas are unfenced, this is the spot where you can safely let a dog off the lead.

The dog setup

The off-leash designation applies strictly inside the fence, so dogs stay leashed through the rest of the reserve and while walking in and out of the gates. The Shire of Augusta Margaret River runs the space, and the enclosure has a double-gate entry that makes the swap between lead and freedom a calm, contained moment.

Bag dispensers are stocked on site, and there is open grass for fetch with some tree cover around the edges. There is no water tap, so bring your own water and a bowl, particularly through summer when the enclosure gets little shade.

The enclosure sits inside a larger reserve, so you can round out the session with an on-lead walk under the trees before heading back into town.

Worth knowing

Weekday mornings tend to be the quiet window, while late afternoons and evenings draw the after-work crowd. Because shade inside the fence is limited, aim for the cooler parts of the day in warmer months.

Max: no tap and not much shade, so pack a full water bottle before you leave the car. Clip the lead on before the gate opens, since dogs must be leashed everywhere outside the fence.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Brookfield Avenue near the Leschenaultia Street intersection, roughly a three to five minute drive from the town centre. Street parking is generally available along Brookfield Avenue near the entrance.

Make a day of it

Round out the morning at Blue Ginger Fine Foods with the dog at the outdoor tables, or take a longer leg-stretch on the Wadandi Track just up the road in Cowaramup. If one fenced run is not enough, Georgette Drive Dog Park is the town's other enclosed option.
