Georgette Drive Dog Park

Georgette Drive Dog Park is an unfenced, Shire-designated off-leash reserve in a quiet residential pocket north-east of central Margaret River, in the Brookfield estate. Open grass mixed with mature tree cover, a neighbourhood feel and a five minute drive from town make it the daily exercise spot for locals, but the lack of fencing shapes who it suits.

The dog setup

Dogs may run off-leash under Shire of Augusta Margaret River rules, but must stay under effective voice and hand control the whole time, because the reserve runs open to the surrounding streets and bushland with no perimeter fence. Dogs need to be friendly and non-aggressive, waste must go in the bins provided, and dogs are excluded from the nearby school ovals and active sporting fields. If your dog is nervous or a known bolter, keep the lead on here and save the off-leash time for a fenced ground.

Max: this is a recall park, not a fence park. If your dog will not come back on the first call, work the long line at the edge of the open grass instead.

Worth knowing

There is no water tap or dog fountain, so bring your own water and bowl, and the shade comes from trees rather than shelters. The Shire occasionally closes the reserve while rangers deal with fox baiting and pest control in the surrounding bushland, so it pays to check the Shire's dog exercise areas page before a special trip.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Georgette Drive, about five to seven minutes' drive from the Margaret River town centre, with street parking along the reserve frontage. Walkways from the surrounding Brookfield streets reach it on foot, but there is little public transport in this pocket, so a car is the practical option.

When to go

It moves with local routines: busiest in the early morning and again late afternoon as owners fit walks around work, quiet through weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons. If your dog is wary of groups, the low-peak windows are the ones to aim for.
