Burns Beach Sunset Village

Burns Beach Sunset Village sits at 35 Ocean Parade in Iluka, about 55 metres from the high-water mark of the Indian Ocean, and it is one of the few places on Perth's northern coast where you can camp or park the van with the dog in tow. The trade-off is clear from the start: dogs are welcome on powered and camping sites, but they are generally not allowed inside the on-site cabins and chalets. The policy is straightforward. Dogs are permitted on designated powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites, and you need to notify and register with management when you apply or arrive. Pets are excluded from the holiday and tourist cabins, so travelling families with dogs should plan around a caravan, camper or tent. Once on the ground, the rules are the standard beachside-park set: dogs stay on a lead and supervised anywhere within the grounds, and you clean up after them straight away. No pet fee is published publicly, so confirm any charge and site availability with the park directly before making the drive north.

The setup

What you are paying for is position. The park sits directly on the coast with ocean views and sunset watching over the water, and a coastal walk and cycle path runs right beside it, which doubles as an easy on-lead stroll from your site morning and evening. The park is also next door to the popular Burns Beach Restaurant and Cafe, handy for a meal that does not require moving the car. Powered sites suit caravans and RVs, and long-term residents give the place a settled, community feel despite it being within easy reach of Perth via the Mitchell Freeway and Burns Beach Road.

If you want a proper off-lead run, Elcar Park Fenced Dog Park in Joondalup is a short drive south, and Whitfords North Dog Exercise Area is another nearby option.
