Lake Elingamite Campground

Lake Elingamite Campground is a donation-based, dog-friendly bush camp on the shores of Lake Elingamite in western Victoria's volcanic lakes country, and the draw for dog owners is blunt: an open, rural waterfront camp where dogs are explicitly welcome to stay overnight, provided you arrive self-contained and keep them under control.

The pet setup

Dogs are permitted and welcomed, including on designated fenced sites, and they need to be well-behaved at all times. This is a public campground rather than a commercial park, so check the on-site signage for lead requirements and any wildlife restrictions when you arrive. Keep dogs under control around the neighbouring cow pastures and the birdlife on the lake, and bring a stake or long line if your dog needs containment beyond the fenced sites.

The vibe

Rustic and low-frills: grassy areas, shade under trees, lake access with a small boat ramp, firepits and an undercover seating area. Parking is on flat, unmarked grass. Facilities are minimal, and reports conflict on the toilet, so treat everything as bare-bones and do not rely on it.

Max: this is a bring-everything camp. Water, food, and your own toilet setup, because the town of Cobden is a drive, not a walk.

Getting there and what to bring

The campground sits on Lake Elingamite Road, reached via rural roads off the Cobden-South Ecklin Road, suited to tents, caravans and campervans. Bring all drinking water, as there is no potable supply, and carry out all rubbish. Cobden, a short drive away, is the nearest town for restocking.
