This is the Timboon end of the Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail, a 34 kilometre gravel path running through dairy country and remnant forest, with the trailhead a short walk from the main street near the skate park and playground.
The walk. Fine, well-maintained gravel, flat enough for a pram or a dog that tires easily. It's a shared path, so cyclists and walkers both use it. You don't need to walk the full 34 kilometres, out-and-back sections of any length work fine from the Timboon end.
Leash status. Dogs must be on a lead at all times. The trail crosses active farmland in places, so keep dogs close around livestock.
Hazards. It's an open, exposed route through the Otways hinterland, so carry water and sun protection even on a mild day. Pick up after your dog, there are no bins along most of the trail so carry bags out with you.
Getting there. The trailhead is off Bailey Street in Timboon, with free parking nearby. Public toilets and picnic tables are at the start. There's no practical public transport option, most people drive in.
Nearby with the dogs. Timboon Fine Ice Cream and Schulz Organic Creamery & Cafe are both an easy walk from the trailhead for a stop afterwards.

Good for most dogs given the flat surface, just bring water and expect open, shadeless stretches once you're out of town.
