Cobden Crest Cottages

Cobden Crest Cottages is a self-contained two-bedroom cottage on the Cobden-Port Campbell Road in Victoria's Otways hinterland, about 20 to 30 minutes from the Great Ocean Road coast at Port Campbell. It takes pets, which makes it a practical base in Corangamite Shire: space and a quiet country setting, with the shipwreck coast an easy drive.

Dogs at the cottage

The property is listed as pet friendly across regional directories and the Stayz listing, with dogs and cats typically limited to one pet of up to 25kg. Bring your own pet bedding. Pets must be supervised outdoors at all times and cannot be left unattended inside the cottage, and there is no explicitly enclosed area on the property, so verify fencing with the host when you book. Inside, the cottage runs as a full self-contained setup: kitchen, bathroom and laundry, a wood heater for cold Corangamite evenings, two air-conditioners for summer, a BBQ outside and a TV and DVD player for slow nights. The site also has a games room with a pool table and table tennis, plus a badminton court and cricket pitch.

Max: one pet, 25 kilos, and no fence to rely on. If your dog needs a run, plan it around the township reserves, not the cottage yard.

While you're out there

Cobden Lake in town has a paved walking track and grassy picnic areas, an easy on-lead leg-stretcher. At the coast, keep national park boundaries in mind: Port Campbell National Park, including the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, is strictly no dogs to protect hooded plovers and rufous bristlebirds, but the Port Campbell township foreshore paths allow dogs on lead, and Peterborough's council-managed beach stretches are the better bet for sand time. Check signage before any beach track.

Close by with the dogs

The Timboon to Camperdown Rail Trail gives a long, flat on-lead walk through dairying country, and R Cafe & Restaurant in Camperdown is a dog-friendly coffee stop on that route. If you want to be beachfront instead, Port Campbell Recreation Reserve Camp Ground also takes dogs.
