Moondah Lodge

Moondah Lodge is a pet-friendly villa-style stay within walking distance of the Dunsborough town centre, at 5 Moondah Close on Western Australia's Geographe Bay coast. Dogs of any size are generally accepted, up to a limit of two per stay, with a fee of around AU$10 per pet per night. Approval needs to be arranged in advance, so flag your dog when you book rather than after. Inside, the rules are the standard villa expectations: pets stay off the furniture and cannot be left unattended at the property. Cats are generally not accepted. Dogs are accommodated in the private villa accommodation, which comes with its own courtyard, giving your dog a secure outdoor space without leaving the property. Policies can change, so confirm the fee, the two-dog limit and the house rules directly at booking.

Worth knowing

The walking-distance-to-town factor is the real draw with a dog in tow. The foreshore paths, the town's cafes and its eateries are all reachable on foot, so nobody has to drive after dinner. Note that the nearby conservation coastline, including Meelup Regional Park, generally prohibits dogs, so keep swimming days to the designated dog stretches along the bay and check shire signage.

Getting there and getting out

Dunsborough sits about three hours' drive south of Perth through Bunbury. Once you are parked at the lodge, you can leave the car for most of the trip: the town centre and foreshore are a walk away, and the winery roads of Yallingup and the cape are a short drive west when you want them.
