Diamond Waters Caravan Park

Diamond Waters Caravan Park sits on eight acres of bushland on the Camden Haven River at Dunbogan, and it takes dogs year round, including inside a self-contained pet-friendly cabin. That cabin is the rare part: most riverfront parks on the mid north coast restrict dogs to sites only, so this is one of the few where a non-camping traveller can stay indoors with a dog.

Tell management you are bringing a dog when you book, and expect a $25 cleaning surcharge on pet-friendly cabin bookings. Up to two pets are allowed per site or cabin. Outside, dogs stay on a lead, droppings are cleaned up immediately, and pets are not allowed in the enclosed common areas. Dogs classed as dangerous or menacing under the NSW Companion Animals Act are not accepted, and cats are banned anywhere in the park to protect local wildlife. Book the pet cabin by name: management charges a $100 cleaning fee if a non-pet cabin is used for a dog.

The stay

The park has river frontage with a boat ramp, backs onto Crowdy Head National Park, and runs powered sites plus that pet cabin. There is an on-site off-leash area for a proper run without the lead, and guests repeatedly mention the helpful on-site managers and the coffee van that visits. Confirm the off-leash area's boundaries with management on arrival, since they are not always signed consistently.

Close by with the dogs

The park is at 848 Diamond Head Road, an easy drive from Laurieton across the river. Laurieton's Henry Kendall Canine Park is a fully fenced off-leash option in town, and Dunbogan Beach and Grant's Beach have sections that allow dogs, some on-lead and some off-lead, so check the current signage before you head down. North Haven's holiday parks are the nearest alternative if the riverfront is full.
