A refundable deposit, reported at up to $500 depending on booking channel, may be taken on arrival. The load-bearing rule: pets cannot be left unattended in rooms, so plan days around taking your dog with you or arranging care.

Rooms are streamlined and air-conditioned, running from standard layouts to kitchenette rooms, some with harbour views, and there is a pool on site. Guest feedback describes tidy rooms in a building where the fit-out shows its age, so expect clean and central rather than glossy. Self check-in is available, which helps on late arrivals from the airport.

Getting there and out with the dog

21 Knuckey Street puts you a short walk from the Esplanade and Bicentennial Park for on-lead walks, and the Darwin Waterfront with its outdoor dining is close by. Mitchell Street's cafes and the shops are on the doorstep.

Start the day with coffee at Postie Coffee or a counter breakfast at Roma Bar, both walking distance. For dinner with the dog on the verandah, Wharf One at the Waterfront works well, and Fiddlers Irish Pub is a handy fallback in the CBD.
