Postie Coffee

Postie Coffee is a small family-run specialty stop on Bennett Street, built around gourmet toasties and serious coffee rather than table service. The Reuben and the hot salami toastie, made on local organic sourdough with a house five-cheese blend, are the regulars, and the drinks list runs from flat whites to an iced almond masala chai with vegan and gluten-free options covered.

The dog setup

This is a takeaway-first operation: seating is footpath and kerbside, and dogs are welcome to wait at your feet while your order is made. There is no fenced patio or dog menu, so bring your own portable water bowl, and pick the shadier end of the street in the build-up. It suits a grab-and-go coffee run with the dog on the way somewhere greener rather than a long settle.

Worth knowing

Hours are weekday-only, 7am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday, with weekends closed, so plan the visit around a workday. There is a small discount for bringing your own cup. Morning is the reliable window before the toastie crowd lands at lunch.

Getting there and parking

Find it at 15 Bennett Street in the Darwin CBD. Metered street parking runs along Bennett Street and fills on weekdays, but the shop is easily walkable from anywhere in the city centre, which is usually the easier option with a dog in tow.

Close by with the dogs

Bicentennial Park is a short walk with harbour views and shaded on-lead paths, and the Darwin Waterfront is about 15 minutes on foot, where Wharf One serves alfresco boardwalk dining that takes dogs. Other CBD coffee stops include Four Birds Cafe and Roma Bar.
