Perk and Palate

Perk and Palate is a modern specialty-coffee cafe on Mitchell Street in the middle of Darwin, and the footpath seating makes it an easy dog-friendly stop in the CBD. For a city that does its mornings before the heat, an early table here with the dog is a solid pattern.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating on the Mitchell Street footpath, which is the spot for watching the street wake up. Staff are used to accommodating dogs, and water bowls are generally available, though bringing your own is the reliable call in the Top End heat.

Worth knowing

The draw is specialty coffee plus a modern brunch and lunch menu with vegetarian and vegan options, and the plating earns a lot of the local praise; chilli scrambled eggs and the granola bowl come up often. Service is quick for a city stop. It opens from 6:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, trading to mid-afternoon.

Getting there and parking

It is at 24 Mitchell Street, with metered street parking along Mitchell Street and the side streets and larger car parks a five to 10 minute walk away. If you are staying in central Darwin, it is walkable from most CBD accommodation, which is the low-stress option with a dog.

Close by with the dogs

Bicentennial Park is a few minutes' walk with clifftop views and grass, and the Darwin Waterfront is a 10 to 15 minute walk with wide paths and lawns; dogs stay on-lead along the Esplanade cliff walks.
